Sharing The Power Of A Wish with Love Circus!

Thanks to all who came out to support The Childrens Wish Foundation at Greenfields on March 27th with the Band 2 Gether 4 A Wish event that netted well over $6500. Hats off to Algonquin College and their Event Management program for a well run evening.Next up:

Innovapost’s 3rd Annual ‘Share The Power Of A Wish’ Run/Walk is happening Saturday May 8th on the Festival Plaza grounds of Ottawa City Hall.

The Chixie Dicks and our great friends Love Circus are proud to be a part of the event as we’ll play before the participants, families, friends and passers by from 10 am until 2pm.

“Make-A-Wish® Eastern Ontario grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.”

Participants can choose to walk or run a 1km, 5km or 10km route. There will be activities for children and families, musical and special guest appearances, prizes and a picnic.

This event has been growing exponentially since it began, surpassing its 2009 goal to grant three wishes and raise $42,000 with around 400 participants.

This year, they’re looking for 1,000 runners/walkers to take part and they hope to grant ten wishes.

As many have inquired about our defunct website (chixiedicks.890m.com is no longer valid), this blog will serve as an interim Official source for all band developments.

You can also join our Facebook group for added activity. (Find the link in the right column).

We're also contemplating a Twitter service (http://www.twitter.com/chixiedicks) but will depend on how many supporters will use it by following us.

We can tell you that we've been using our time in the new year working on some new material and are excited about getting back out there.

We have several pending requests and a couple of exciting gigs on the horizon.

March 27th, 6pm at Greenfields Pub in Barrhaven (900 Greenbank) we'll warm the room up for a Battle Of The Bands for The Childrens Wish Foundation.

May 8th, 10am outdoors at City Hall for the Make-A-Wish run.

More details on both coming soon.

2009 - THE MISSING MONTHS

No, it's not like the Dicks have been dormant. In fact, we've had our share of stage time this year. It's just the blogging has been neglected.

So, let's recap.

The first part of 2009, (especially the spring) was slow because a certain someone was planning a wedding.

However, The Chixie Dicks still managed to help raise over $6000 for area causes, including The Heart and Stroke Foundation, Easter Seals, CHEO, The Doc and Woody Fund, and In The Spirit Of Christmas for toys and food hampers.

And it ain't over.
Moving into the fall and winter, there will be a major focus and several events planned to raise a targeted $20000 for an anticipated increase in need to help the area shelters and families in need.

This won't be easy and we'll need some help... especially from our friends in the music community.

But, together, I think we can get quite a bit accomplished.

Watch for events in October at Bass Line Station and Sonny's Bar and Grill, including a Halloween costume bash, similar to last years with great prizes for costumes.

But a more pressing cause is just around the corner.

October 3rd, Elmdale Tavern on Wellington Street, The Chixie Dicks and Friends will Rock For The Cure For Breast Cancer.

Thanks to Val, AJ, Anne and ESPECIALLY the folks who came out Sunday afternoon the join the fundraiser for IN THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS!

It was a well organized event with the help of THE WISE GUYS and THE RUNES rounding out the 'live entertainment portion of the day.

Additionally they staged a BASS LINE BACHELOR AUCTION, coupled with silent auctions and raffles. It resulted in over $1200 for a very noble cause!

The Chixie Dicks were one Dick short of a load but it didn't stop us from goin' out there and having a great time with an impressive Sunday afternoon crowd. Ricky was out of town but we saved him a T-shirt and those T-shirts sold out at Bass Line! Thank you to ALL who supported the cause with the shirts. More Chixie Dicks Tees will be available this Saturday as we wrap up the campaign at Sonny's with a performance.
But quantities are limited so make sure you get one early.

Also, don't forget BLACKBOARD NAILS this Friday at Sonny's, kicking off the final fundraising weekend for the cause.

Another Christmas fundraiser is set for Sunday, December 7th, beginning at 2pm at Bass Line Station, 2557 Baseline Road.

The Chixie Dicks will be joined by our great friends The Wise Guys and The Runes for the IN THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS fundraiser with the possibility of another act signing on.

In addition, they'll be staging a Bass Line Bachelor auction where the lucky bidder will be privately attended to for lunch, brunch or dinner by 5 of Bass Line's Hunkiest Bachelors.

Other fundraising attractions include:A Giant Bass Line Bear raffle, 50/50 Raffle, door prizes and more.

SONNY'S WAS SPOOKTACULAR!!

Thanks to everyone who took part in the Chixie Dicks' Nightmare Before Christmas Halloween party last Friday Night.

It was the best ever crowd and the most fun we've had so far... and we've had a lot of fun!

It was the biggest crowd Sonny's has seen in quite some time and we were able to raise a whopping $1600+ in just a few hours.

The spirit was high and a vast majority of folks were costumed up, making the night even more fun.

It was a great day Saturday as the Dicks performed a private "house warming" fundraiser at our friend Karen Richardson's house to raise money for "In The Spirit Of Christmas".

The effort raised close to $500 for the cause in just a couple of hours.

The weather was awesome and the new gear got one helluva test drive.

Everyone had a great day and the test was essential to preparing for the September 6th fundraiser for the Ottawa Distress Centre at Philthy McNasty's.
Details on that soon, but for now, we can tell you that the Dicks will be sharing the stage with Robert Farrell, Maria Hawkins, Blind Dog Willy, Wise Guys and The Moonrunners.

We're currently experiencing technical problems with computers and the website, so the only updates will be appearing on this page for the time being.

TWO GIGS COMING UP!

The Dicks are working on two important and fun shows coming up in August and September.

The August event will be a private function, by invitation only, on the 23rd for IN THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS - a much needed pre-Christmas shot in the arm for a worthwhile cause.

A bigger and public event is in the final planning stages for September 6th at Philthy McNasty's in Kanata. Formal promotion won't happen for another week or two but as of now we can tell you that we have excellent talent appearing with us on that day.

6 acts and 3 emcees have been secured thus far.

Those details and other developments are forthcoming. Keep checking in with this blog over the next several days for updates.

LET THERE BE DRUMS

Our good friends at St. John's Music are hosting a drum clinic conducted by Tyler Stewart of Barenaked Ladies.

It's happening Tuesday at their 1541 Merivale Road location.

As of this posting, the $10 per "in" is a virtual sellout with maybe a handful of tickets left.

Proceeds will be directed toward the Doc and Woody Fund for the Operating Rooms at CHEO.

This has little to do with the Chixie Dicks. We just thought we'd spread the luvvvv around and say thanks, SJM!

WHERE WEEZ WUZ N' WHERE WE'RE TOOZ

Just a little update on the status of the Chixie Dicks.

The boys are still jammin' regularly, going over most of the old material and introducing some new stuff as we head into the summer months.

We currently have no bookings set for the month of July due to the need to remedy some mixing issues.

Following our last performance at Bass Line Station, we arrived at the obvious conclusion that it's time for some technical changes.

With eight members, including four guitars - 3 acoustic or 3 electric at any given time - plus a mandolin and the introduction of banjo in the forseeable future, we acknowledge the need to harness our amperage and fold back a stage mix to hear our own instruments in context. Most bands are 3 to 5 in number. Who knew we'd wind up with a snowman (golf term for 8)?

The situation at Bass Line gave us tremendous pause. How, on Father's Day - a Sunday afternoon in June, we filled the bar for a good three hours is only the most humbling testament to our growing number of supporters.

That afternoon, we became painfully aware of our technical shortfalls, to the point that some of us could not hear what we were doing. Involuntary "amp wars" evolved and while the performance was lively and the feedback was positive, we can only assume we were hitting the right notes thru muscle memory on some of the later tunes.

In short, you deserved better and we deserve the comfort so we can deliver better. Now, thanks to the tremendous support of St John's Music, we'll soon have what we need to give a clean performance.

Knowing that we are focused on doing only charity work, it's a tremendous boost for community causes to have that kind of help.

Just so y'all know, we're aware and working on it.

Next confirmed bookings at this point are a private fundraising function on August 23rd and an Ottawa West street party on August 24th for palliative care.

The Dicks are also leading the way in organizing an early September fundraiser for the Ottawa Distress Centre involving several acts thru a day-long event. Details will be rolled out over the summer.

There may be a random performance in July at our home base, Sonny's, in July if time and availability permit.

Woody, incidentally, has been invited to jam tomorrow night at Tucson's with The Moondogs for a couple of tunes. Hope to see some of you there.

IT WAS A HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!

It was a great afternoon at Bass Line Station yesterday afternoon. The room was close to capacity and, for a Sunday afternoon in June - not to mention Fathers' Day, it was quite a remarkable turnout and we humbly thank our beloved Dick Heads for the support.

In just a couple of short hours, we managed to raise over $500 in the Do It For Dad effort for prostate cancer research.

And the fundraising doesn't stop there. Bass Line Station also has an electric guitar that they're raffling off and drawing for this Thursday.

So, if you want in on that prize and would like to further help the cause, drop into Bass Line Station, 2557 Baseline Road and buy a ticket or ten. DICKS GEARIN' UP TO DO IT FOR DAD

With Father's Day this Sunday, The Chixie Dicks will be playing a benefit from 3-6pm to raise money and awareness for prostate cancer research.

We feel, as mostly middle-aged men, prostate health is becoming more of a prominent issue with us and, as most of us are fathers and we've all HAD fathers, it's important to bring awareness and support to this cause.

Besides, we all have better things to do with our middle finger!

Also on the bill is Canadian recording artist John Allaire, who will also be performing at the upcoming Cisco Systems' Bluesfest. John has shared stages in the past with the likes of Blue Rodeo, Tom Cochrane and The Tragically Hip, so we feel quite honoured that he's taking the time to share the day with us and perform.

Judging from his webshot, he'll fit right in with the Chixie Dicks' sense of fun and good humour.

His musical style is one of "alt.country" roots has been likened to that of people like Neil Young.

We're in for a helluva day, folks. And, after John is done, if ya still think ya can do better 'n us, have at it with Sunday night Karaoke at Bass Line Station.

Ahhh, yes! Alcohol and microphones; a splendid combination!

Greenfields ROCKED on Sunday. It was an awesome time and the place was packed. Thanks to everyone who showed up to support us and The Children's Hospital Of Eastern Ontario.

In just 6 hours, Primo Rocks For CHEO raised over $3,000.

Big thanks to Lou Di Millo and his band The Wise Guys. Lou did all the leg work in organizing the event.

Bazooka Joe, The BE Band, Barrelhouse and Groove Junkies rounded out the lineup and kept the joint hoppin' all day.

JUNE 1st UPDATE: 3:30 START FOR THE DICKS

Just confirmed yesterday with Lou Di Millo that the Chixie Dicks will start at approximately 3:30pm on Sunday at Greenfields.

Lou has also been able to secure Barrelhouse as the 6th band of the day, in addition to Lou's The Wise Guys, Bazooka Joe, The Groove Junkies, The BE Band and ourselves.

As well, to help with the fundraising, there will be door prizes, raffles, items for auction and a BBQ.

Hats off to the guy organizing the sked for Sunday the first. Lou Di Millo of the Wise Guys has been able to assemble a slate of acts for the day in conjunction with the CHEO telethon.

The time the Dicks take the stage is looking like 3:30 pm. Lou has just locked in the schedule and will be forwarding the added info to us within hours.

This just in....

The Chixie Dicks are confirmed to play Greenfields Pub on Sunday June 1st as part of the annual telethon for the Childrens' Hospital of Eastern Ontario.

Thanks to Lou DiMillo for the invitation, we'll be joining The Wise Guys and a handful of other bands yet to be confirmed.

The set will likely be an hour long around mid to late afternoon. The time will be locked in over the coming days.

The Dicks had our first practice since our April 25th gig at Sonny's last night and are feeling relaxed and looking forward to playing a fun, high energy and infectious set of rock and roll and good humour at Greenfields.

We'll employ our typical brand of mirth and merriment with just a couple of new elements to the show.

As mentioned above, more details are coming and we'll also let you know of the other acts performing that day when we get the confirmations.

Preparations are coming along nicely for Friday's fundraiser at Sonny's. The Dicks have one more practice tonight and just a few side preps to take care of before week's end.

In addition to turning over the fees to In The Spirit Of Christmas for area shelters and families in need, we'll also sell 50/50 and door prize tickets to help raise a few more bucks for the cause.

But the main focus is to have fun. The great weather has finally arrived and everyone's in a great mood so we're gonna celebrate the hell out of it.

CHIXIE DICKS GIG ALERT!!

This morning we solidified an agreement with Sonny's Bar And Grill to perform on Friday, April 25th, starting at 8pm.

The plan is to play until a little after 11 with a full 3 sets of material and proceeds from our bar-take go to our favourite charity, In The Spirit Of Christmas to give the fund a head-start on 2008 needs. There will be 50/50 raffles and, hopefully, some auction material or draw items to purchase tix for..... But this is all in the pre-lims.

The important thing is that the boyz get ta playyyy.

Sonny's is our home bar and Christmas is our founding cause, so we felt it fitting that our 2008 coming out party include those two elements.

More activity shortly. But, for now, keep watching our Blawg and the website for even further delails.

Thanks for stopping by our website and new CHIXIE DICKS Blawg.

We're having a lot of fun with this project and the website is just another way to get our personality across.

After a couple of technical glitches with the first blog, we tore down and rebuilt the f#*ker and here's hoping it bangs on all cylinders.

Much like our music, web design is a part-time thing but the passion for it is just as intense.

We hope you learn and like more about us with each visit to the site. The blog here will serve as a real-time update source as it's designed to receive and post new info from anywhere in the world at any time. (Doncha jist luv that new teknowledgy thay'all come up with these dayz??)
