Sharing The Power Of A Wish with Love Circus!

Thanks to all who came out to support The Childrens Wish Foundation at Greenfields on March 27th with the Band 2 Gether 4 A Wish event that netted well over $6500. Hats off to Algonquin College and their Event Management program for a well run evening.Next up:

Innovapost’s 3rd Annual ‘Share The Power Of A Wish’ Run/Walk is happening Saturday May 8th on the Festival Plaza grounds of Ottawa City Hall.

The Chixie Dicks and our great friends Love Circus are proud to be a part of the event as we’ll play before the participants, families, friends and passers by from 10 am until 2pm.

“Make-A-Wish® Eastern Ontario grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.”

Participants can choose to walk or run a 1km, 5km or 10km route. There will be activities for children and families, musical and special guest appearances, prizes and a picnic.

This event has been growing exponentially since it began, surpassing its 2009 goal to grant three wishes and raise $42,000 with around 400 participants.

This year, they’re looking for 1,000 runners/walkers to take part and they hope to grant ten wishes.

As many have inquired about our defunct website (chixiedicks.890m.com is no longer valid), this blog will serve as an interim Official source for all band developments.

We're also contemplating a Twitter service (http://www.twitter.com/chixiedicks) but will depend on how many supporters will use it by following us.

We can tell you that we've been using our time in the new year working on some new material and are excited about getting back out there.

We have several pending requests and a couple of exciting gigs on the horizon.

March 27th, 6pm at Greenfields Pub in Barrhaven (900 Greenbank) we'll warm the room up for a Battle Of The Bands for The Childrens Wish Foundation.

May 8th, 10am outdoors at City Hall for the Make-A-Wish run.

2009 - THE MISSING MONTHS

No, it's not like the Dicks have been dormant. In fact, we've had our share of stage time this year. It's just the blogging has been neglected.

So, let's recap.

The first part of 2009, (especially the spring) was slow because a certain someone was planning a wedding.

However, The Chixie Dicks still managed to help raise over $6000 for area causes, including The Heart and Stroke Foundation, Easter Seals, CHEO, The Doc and Woody Fund, and In The Spirit Of Christmas for toys and food hampers.

And it ain't over.
Moving into the fall and winter, there will be a major focus and several events planned to raise a targeted $20000 for an anticipated increase in need to help the area shelters and families in need.

This won't be easy and we'll need some help... especially from our friends in the music community.

But, together, I think we can get quite a bit accomplished.

Watch for events in October at Bass Line Station and Sonny's Bar and Grill, including a Halloween costume bash, similar to last years with great prizes for costumes.

But a more pressing cause is just around the corner.

October 3rd, Elmdale Tavern on Wellington Street, The Chixie Dicks and Friends will Rock For The Cure For Breast Cancer.

Thanks to all who responded on Facebook and word of mouth and came out to help us raise over $600 for the Doc and Woody Fund for the operating rooms @ CHEO.

We'll be selling door prize and 50/50 tickets as well as our limited run of Chixie Dicks Tee Shirts for $20 with the proceeds toward the hampers.

THANKS TO BASS LINE!! OVER $1200 FOR THE HAMPERS!

Thanks to Val, AJ, Anne and ESPECIALLY the folks who came out Sunday afternoon the join the fundraiser for IN THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS!

It was a well organized event with the help of THE WISE GUYS and THE RUNES rounding out the 'live entertainment portion of the day.

Additionally they staged a BASS LINE BACHELOR AUCTION, coupled with silent auctions and raffles. It resulted in over $1200 for a very noble cause!

The Chixie Dicks were one Dick short of a load but it didn't stop us from goin' out there and having a great time with an impressive Sunday afternoon crowd. Ricky was out of town but we saved him a T-shirt and those T-shirts sold out at Bass Line! Thank you to ALL who supported the cause with the shirts. More Chixie Dicks Tees will be available this Saturday as we wrap up the campaign at Sonny's with a performance.
But quantities are limited so make sure you get one early.

Also, don't forget BLACKBOARD NAILS this Friday at Sonny's, kicking off the final fundraising weekend for the cause.
